Waterloo 1944
The Battle for Le Haye Sainte

Monday 29th June 2015

German forces were holding the historic farm of Le Haye Sainte, there commander was a direct descendant of the original defenders from the KGL - Major Georg Baring.

The new commander, Hauptman Von Smallhousen was heard saying after the battle -

"Ze came on in the Zame way, und we beat them in the zame way"

Initially the forces were deployed in and around the farm, with the Free French (French again!!!!) starting on the ridge just like history.

The planned German flank attacks, stalled initially as command dice were rubbish.
As too were some British dice throws, meaning the majority of armour was off table.

One British commander (Bob!) tried to argue that a tank could shoot through a friendly 1/2 track.

The left flank anti-tank gun scored an early success taking out an M3 1/2 track, but it was empty.

The Right flank gun struggled to get hits, Rob marched slowly up the allied right facing a determined squad of troops who kept rolling the saves, time after time until close range and then they suffered. One stoic defender retrreated but came back at the end undeterred.

On the allied right, once the extra armour arrived, Bob and Tom decided to attack. Taking out the A/T Guns helped, but the smaller ones at the front of the wood ere a thorn in their side needing to be dispatched at bayonet point. Luckily the Axis forces had a mobile gun, initially held in reserve,  to help in the fight against the tanks. The brave Germans who charged forward with panzerfausts were the true heroes on the day, stalling the allied thrust.

The battle ended after 8 turns and night fall, German tanks were heard approaching as a relief force in the distance (Prussians arriving in nick of time?). Their was still a full squad holding the farm and the closest allied units were only just level with the gates. The Germans had held!!
The Allied troops were forced to retreat and leave the victorious (but battered) axis forces in charge of the farm.

Rules were home grown by Lee who also umpired, good set of rules and a great game.

Warhammer 40K

Mark (Chaos Marines) Vs Me (Eldar)
1200 points

Mark wanted to try out his new Chaos army and so  faced him with my Eldar, as I wanted to try my new Crimson Hunter.

We used objectives and tactical cards to play a game.

It was a close game, but thanks to my Wraith Knights and Crimson hunter,  I came out 10 - 6 wiuner.

If my flyer had come on first and Mark had the chance to fly behind mine, whole outcome might have been different.

A big surprise was a volley of lucky shots form my Rangers taking out 3 of the 5 Deep Striking Terminators rolling 3 6's to wound giving AP2. However they had revenge when they charged into the Rangers.

Some pics from the battle.

And Finally, my Crimson Hunter, with a Harlequin paint job.

Dead Mans Hand

Bought Dead Mans hand from Triples and a building, Adam liked them so much he ordered a second building.

We had previously played Warhammer Wild West rules and weren't that keen.

These rules however are easy and fun, with an unpredictable nature due to the cards.
We have played several games and enjoyed also playing one of the series of 3 scenarios in the book.

I did have some card buildings I had bought as PDF from "Whitewash City" and once mounted on card are quite good, just slightly too small compared to 4ground buildings and will be replaced over time.

Pictures are from a quick game we played just using 4ground buildings.
Lawmen started in Sheriffs office and Cowboys in bar.

It all started so well for the cowboys taking out the marshal early on with their "No-name"

It finished with a fight outside and "No-name" failing a bid nerve test.
We played on anyway and "No-name" came back to finish off the lawmen.

More pics form another game soon when we try a multi-player game at the club
Show Report

TRIPLES 2015

Another one of our favoruite shows through the year.

On a plus point, lads took some stuff and sold on the bring and buy.

Our best game - which we went back to again was the Mad Max Lorry Chase.

I remember this from years ago, and we played it 2 years ago. Its a great, fun game.
The game is based on the Mad Max chase at the end of the 2nd film (my fav of the 3)
Everyone plays the "bad" guys and we have to stop the lorry moving 100 spaces.

We move on relation to the lorry (if it moves 5 and I put 6 then I move 1), we can ram, some can shoot.
Lorries defense is 2 petrol bombers, 2 shooters and of course Max.

Good thing is when a car is destroyed, you can bring this on again or pick another vehicle.

All models are 1/48th scale and models are excellent, as are the guys running it.

Quality of the other games were also up to high standards and those we played were interesting and good.

Onr game that caught our eye was a huge Napoleonic battle, think it was fight for Plancenoit in 25mm.
Table was a frame with a tarp laid on and then filled with sand. Roads were scrapped into into the sand and had flock wa scattered over.

The only game the lads didn't enjoy was a game run by Wargame Developments.
This game was like Monopoly, and around the history of Coastal Command during WW2.
The 6 players all took a plane each (I had a Sunderland Flying Boat) and moved around the board.
Each square landed on we were given a piece of the history which I found interesting. Also there was an oppertunity in various squares to do aircraft recognition and u-boat attacks.

Here's some more pics of other good games seen on the day.

Finally, some pics from the balcony.
